A great city is one that provides for its young people, to ensure intergenerational sustainability for the Future of the City. Our City needs to be safe. It needs to reflect all people in its decision-making - an area in which young people are lacking. Most importantly, we need resilience to weather earthquakes and bold action to combat the current climate crisis.
Whakamana te Tangata • The First Living Wage City.
Wellington is going to be Aotearoa’s first Living Wage City. The City Council is a good place to start, but there are still Council owned and operated venues and events sub-contracting underpaid workers. Plus, we should encourage and support local and big businesses to become Living Wage accredited.
Tiakina te Taiao • The Greenest Lil’ Capital.
Fifty streets in Wellington are blacklisted from recycling. That’s 2000 properties worth of waste going into landfill every single week. Recycling should not be a privilege: it is a necessity. Let’s get every home in Lambton Ward recycling and taking part in keeping our streets clean.
Tātou tātou • Weaving People Together.
Building community is the best way to strengthen community wellbeing and resilience. In other words, knowing your neighbour gives you a reason to get out of the house. We’ve already got awesome community groups. Let’s strengthen them by linking them in with one another, getting students and young people invested in their neighbourhoods, and run more events and initiatives.
